From a recent email i received:
I got this email from change.org

Have you heard of anti-gay "conversion therapy"? It's therapy that's supposed to "fix" gay people by turning them straight, and most mental health associations say it's incredibly dangerous, especially for kids. In fact, the American Psychiatric Association has stated that "potential risks of reparative therapy are great, including depression, anxiety and self-destructive behavior."

I'm a senior in high school, and when I came out, my parents were amazingly supportive -- it was still really hard. But some parents refuse to accept their children's sexuality. I can't imagine how awful it would be to go to your parents for support and have them tell you they hate you so much they're going to send you to some anti-gay therapist against your will.

Last year, California became the first state in America to pass a law banning this harmful practice for kids under the age of 18. Now my state, New Jersey, is expected to pass a similar bill, but Governor Chris Christie hasn't yet said whether he'll sign it.

I started a petition on Change.org calling on Governor Christie to commit to sign the bill that would ban anti-gay conversion therapy for kids in New Jersey. Will you click here to add your name?

It's not easy to be a lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgender teen. Studies show that kids like me are four times more likely than other kids to attempt suicide, and when their families aren't supportive, that number jumps to eight times more likely.

There's been a lot of speculation that Chris Christie might seek national office one day, so I want to make sure he hears not just from people in New Jersey, but all over America, that signing this bill is the right thing to do.

Thank you,

P.S. If your life has been affected by anti-gay conversion therapy, please share your story in the "why I'm signing" section of the petition.
